Exploring Fertility Through Holistic and Quantum Medicine: A Conversation with Dr. Kela Smith  

 

Lindsay Goodwin: Can you tell us a little about yourself, your fertility journey, and how you became aligned with your incredible work?  

 

Dr. Kela Smith: Sure, thank you for having me! My story began with my struggle with infertility. When my husband and I decided to have kids, we assumed getting pregnant would be easy. However, after months of trying with no success, we sought medical advice, only to be told we had "unexplained infertility."  

 

Eventually, at the age of 36, we were encouraged to go straight to IVF. That recommendation didn't sit well with me, especially considering our test results showed nothing medically wrong. I felt there had to be another way, so I took matters into my own hands.  

 

I dove into research at libraries—this was before Instagram and social media when information wasn't as accessible. That's when I discovered I had hypothalamic amenorrhea. My cycle was missing due to over-exercising, under-eating, and excessive stress. Once I addressed those issues, my cycle returned, and I eventually conceived naturally—not once but twice!  

 

My last baby arrived when I was 40, inspiring me to return to school, earn my Ph.D., and start my company. My mission was to help women and couples holistically figure out their fertility puzzles.  

 

Lindsay Goodwin: What holistic approaches did you personally implement to overcome infertility?  

 

Dr. Kela: The first step for me was understanding that my lifestyle was not conducive to fertility. I needed to nourish my body, not deplete it. Here's what I did:  

  1. Nutrition: I noticed I wasn't eating enough calories, fat, or protein to support my hormonal health. I began focusing on fertility-friendly foods like leafy greens, eggs (for choline), fatty fish, and foods rich in folate and omega-3s.
  2. Weight and Exercise: I gained some weight and reduced excessive Exercise. Overtraining was a significant stressor that impacted my cycle.
  3. Tracking Ovulation: I started tracking ovulation using cervical mucus and basal body temperature once my cycle returned.
  4. Mindset Matters: A significant breakthrough was changing my belief system. I stopped thinking of my body as "broken" and embraced the mantra, "My body was made to get pregnant." This mindset change profoundly affected my energy, emotions, and, eventually, my physical body.
  5. Self-Care: I slowed down in general. Stress reduction and self-care became central to my routine.

 

Lindsay Goodwin: How do quantum and energy medicine come into play on a fertility journey?  

 

Dr. Kela: Quantum and energy medicine are fascinating because they tap into the mind-body connection. Stress, mindset, beliefs, and energy are critical in fertility. When our bodies are constantly in fight-or-flight mode, resources are diverted from reproduction.  

 

Quantum medicine focuses on aligning your body's electromagnetic fields and using tools like energy work, mindfulness, and visualization to create balance. These principles remind us that fertility isn't just biochemical; it's also energetic.  

 

Lindsay Goodwin: You are the creator of the Hormone Puzzle Method. Can you tell us more about that?

  4. Sleep: Prioritize getting 7-8 hours of restful sleep every night.
